Shifted from one bourbon barrel into another after 16 years, but this time a first fill heavy char job. On the nose, everything seemed drenched in sunshine – golden syrup, toffee, marzipan, honey and vanilla, dessert wine and vintage champagne, chamomile, coconut and split logs. The delightful palate suggested tropical fruits, armagnac-soaked cherries, hibiscus tea and marshmallows toasted on birch twigs; the finish had undertones of salted caramel, leather, black coffee and oak.

The reduced nose suggested bubble gum, cherry lozenges and porridge with honey – all inside a newly constructed timber-built house. The palate combined candyfloss with cough lozenges and macarons with raisins flamed in calvados.
