A masterful combination of ripe fruit, dark chocolate and Islay smoke. Cosseted away in the finest, hand-selected oak casks and allowed to mature at its own sedate pace, this is one of the most remarkable, perfectly balanced single malt scotch whiskies of its kind. One of our rarest whiskies, bottles of Bowmore 18 Year Old may be limited, but there’s no end to its enjoyment.

Bowmore

Bowmore holds the distinction of being Islay’s oldest licensed distillery, officially established in 1779, though whispers of earlier activity linger like peat smoke in a warehouse. Situated in the island’s capital, it sits almost politely between the fierce south coast malts and the gentler northeastern styles, offering a whisky that bridges tradition and elegance.

The distillery is famed not just for its age but for its remarkable balance. While peat smoke is certainly present, it is rarely aggressive, often intertwined with floral notes, citrus, and an unmistakable maritime saltiness. This harmony is no accident. Bowmore employs a combination of traditional techniques, including its own floor maltings, which supply a portion of the distillery’s peated barley, and a long fermentation that invites complexity into the wash before it even reaches the stills.

Maturation occurs in some of the most storied warehouses in Scotland, most notably the legendary No. 1 Vaults. These stone chambers lie below sea level, where Atlantic winds creep in with salty fingers and contribute to the whisky’s coastal character. Sherry and bourbon casks, often reused for decades, lend further nuance to the spirit.

Bowmore has played many roles throughout its long history, from wartime storage depot to quiet classic among collectors. Yet at its core, it remains a whisky of subtlety and poise, revealing its secrets slowly and never in haste.
