From The Official Website

Since 1997, the Distillers Editions have been an annual release of limited quantities, each very much true to its origins yet possessing a rich depth, complexity and nuance of flavour not found in the regular release. This excellent Talisker has been firstly matured in Refill American and European Oak casks. With the second maturation finished in Amoroso seasoned heavily re-charred American Oak ends.

NOSE: A pungent nose with clean ozone-fresh sea-air and beach seaweed backed by richer, smokier notes, sweet malt and sultana sweetness from the cask; gloriously well combined and harmonious.

PALATE An oily-smooth texture, the taste at once smoky and briny yet sweet with rich fruit too, quickly growing more peppery, as woody spiciness takes a clear interest. Luxurious suggestions of roasted fig and sweet date are firmly backed throughout by peat smoke and sea-salt, and there’s a smoothness to the chili ‘catch’ as it goes down.

FINISH: Long, powerful and while still sweet, now drying too, with lingering peat smoke and cocoa nibs.

Talisker

The Talisker distillery clings to the western edge of the Isle of Skye, facing the jagged silhouette of the Cuillin hills across the water. Salt-laden winds sweep in from Loch Harport, carrying the scent of seaweed and stone, mingling with the smoke that rises from the stillhouse. This is a place of shifting skies and restless weather, and its whisky seems to gather all of it into the glass. Few spirits speak so clearly of their surroundings.

Founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers, Talisker began with a bold premise: to establish a distillery in one of the most isolated corners of the Hebrides. The early years were hard going, complicated by remoteness, legal challenges, and the occasional fire. Even so, the distillery found its footing, becoming a fixture in blends before stepping into the limelight in its own right. It is now one of Diageo’s Classic Malts, widely admired but still anchored in a setting that feels almost defiantly unchanged.

Talisker’s spirit is shaped by long fermentation, medium peating, and the unusual U-shaped lyne arms on its stills, which encourage heavier compounds to recondense and redistil. This gives the whisky a broad, muscular character with a distinctive peppery warmth. Most casks are American oak, some refill, some first-fill, many aged close to the sea. The resulting single malt is layered with brine, honey, bonfire smoke, and citrus peel. It is a whisky of tidal pools and cliff paths, full of elemental clarity and quiet force.
