Adam’s Notes
The legendary Seagram’s name lives on in this throwback style Canadian whisky. Originally created in 1883 at the old Waterloo distillery, this recipe was the first made under Joseph Seagram’s sole ownership.
For a while the brand was owned by Diageo and was reportedly made at the Crown Royal distillery in Gimli Manitoba. However, since Sazerac (who have a near century-long history with the Seagram’s brand) bought the brand back in 2018, it is rumoured that they have moved production to their Old Montréal distillery – which actually used to belong to Seagram’s! It’s gone full circle.
Here’s an interesting note about the old Seagram’s distillery in Montreal. It was lead by legendary distiller and philanthropist Sam Bronfman (side-note – Bronfman is Yiddish for Liquor Man!). He trained his successor Art Dawe, who then trained current master blender Drew Mayville. So, assuming it is being distilled in Montreal again, the recipe is back in the hands the original Seagram’s lineage.
